I joined in on the Clutterbug challenge
Its 5 minutes a day tackling one area and getting 5 items out of your house. Sounded like fun and I figured I could do this now that my house is manageable.
Day One - Front Entry Closet
Dealing with DR!!
I realize I had to deal with some health stuff and it's frustrating - Luckily, I had cleaned out the entry closet just a few weeks ago so I was ok just very frustrated I had wanted to get a start on this challenge.
Bit of a back story- (It's kind of long, sorry)
As I started August, I was going off a medicine to help my ADHD - (Honestly, I always thought I didn't have the Hyperactive part but apparently my over thinking and trying to process all the thoughts is a form of the Hyperactive part) Ok back to the story.
So, After I was off the med we started a new medicine and that it went downhill. It is a stronger med, so we have to do BP checks. (we had a BP machine for Jason we got during covid) the numbers were very high, so after checks in each arm and position changes, time changes I opted for a new machine. It was still high, so I started worrying (as well as the people close to me) Went to the Dr and it was normal (took the machine too show them and make sure I was doing it correctly - it was still high)
For some reason the ones I have purchased do not like me:).
After that mess was kind of sorted, I asked the other dr if I could go and get my BP done at the dr or I have a dear friend who is a retired nurse, and she could do it (She wouldn't lie as she was freaking out on my numbers via the machines) She of course prefers the dr office route and then said I needed to go 2 times a day for 2 days - Yeah with all my other life bits driving 30 min one way to the dr 2 times a day is going to happen. I have not responded to her since. probably the wrong way to deal with it all but I am sorry this is absurd.
I then tossed myself into the cleaning of the house....
Entry area
Here is a picture of the entry from the garage - Our usual entry to the house. Jason installed the coat racks, and I added the shoe ones since it's a tiny space the grandkids and Miranda tend to drop shoes and then we trip on them. these baskets are helping but not a trip saver completely yet. maybe someday. they are slim in profile though so that helps a ton.
Laundry side of the room - We had our washer die a short time ago so this is the new washer - when the dryer dies well get the matching dryer. I am thinking to getting bases for the washer and dryer later not sure if we will or not??
My hope is someday to get this floor changed out (the new flooring is under our bed) but after replacing the kitchen ourselves Jason is anti-replacing. (there is in floor heating and it's a nightmare to remove)
Day Two - Kitchen Counters and Surfaces
Since my original de clutter I have been very good about only having out what I need and not having a lot on the counters, the Island (Faux Island until I get my kitchen redone) is Lava so only a few items are allowed there permanently
Kitchen View from the Livingroom area
Kitchen View from the sliding door
- At first it was the menu bits for Miranda and the tissue. Now I have moved her menu to the side of the fridge and the tissue is all that is allowed.
Miranda's Menu
Velcro fabric for patches and then printed and laminated food items with Velcro on the back
Works pretty good - the magnets are strong, and they do slide a bit but the whole area works well for us during times where Miranda is upset and can't tell us she is hungry and what she would like to eat.
Then there is Miranda's table....
It was supposed to be a small table for us all to eat at, but it quickly became Miranda's domain. So, I focused on her area and got her items put into 3 drawers at the end of my pantry cabinets. Which did result in a whole pantry makeover! (Counting those towards the day 4 section)
I didn't take before pictures Just some today when the kitchen was clean (pre morning Miranda)
Day 3 is the fridge - That was pretty easy since I routinely toss bits out.

Day 4 The Pantry
The reorganized cabinet:
This is the 2 cabinets on the right:
So the right hand is for my cleaning supplies and bits I might need. I have a shelf of Less used cleaners and then my regular use cleaner shelf. I added the labels after I organized it all and Jason thought it was funny that I wouldn't know what the objects in the bins are if they were not labeled. Little does he know - One of the reasons I labeled things for is so he can find stuff and put stuff away. The other is I just really like how it looks. So tidy....
Here are the drawer units below the right-side cupboards:
Top drawer - potato drawer and a cord to use power at the Island - Then Miranda's magazines that tend to get all over the kitchen (its nice to have a place to stash them each afternoon/evening)
Middle drawers - My Optavia stuff and then a sensory drawer for those bits that are harder to organize. She decided that her sticker folders needed to be in this drawer not the top:)
I cannot rave enough about the ability to stash all this stuff away and not have it laying all around the kitchen. It has been a battle, and I really feel I have a handle on it all. I will add having the kitchen organized the way I need it has allowed me to not get as upset when the bits are all around and now knowing I have a place to stash it all I feel even better
The top cupboard unit is for baking and cooking as well as a place for Jason's snacks.
My happy place on this cabinet is that it all using the same container - I got some sets from Amazon and Sams club. I even gained space to put all 4 of the cereals on the same shelf. So wild that just that bit made me so happy.
The drawers below on the left:
Top drawer - Snacks for the grandkids and Mirada - These silicon ziplock bags are amazing and easy for Miranda to close up (when she feels like it)
the right side is the different quick meals I can make her and she can grab and give to me if she is wanting something. Works great!
Bottom drawers -
I was struggling with Norah's Boba/Miso stuff and this drawer after my organizing became empty, so I decided to relocate her Boba/Miso to this area Very handy to have it in one place together and then the other drawer has back up baggies and some of the misc bits for science projects.
It was a fun nice project that resulted in a huge change in the pantry cabinets I was surprised how quickly that I was able to clear out, clean and rearrange it all so it worked with my current needs.
Note: this organizing project took about 2 weeks of small implementation since I ordered containers and bits and they needed to arrive.
Next project is the inside of the fridge I will drop that blog post tomorrow:)
